What we mean by this is whoever you identify your first sexual partner to be, and we are talking about consensual sex of some kind, not sexual assault. "Together" also means whatever you identify as being together in an ongoing relationship, not just any one model or kind of realtionship.

...My first sexual partner was an ex boyfriend. The first time I had sex with him and lost my virginity was about about 2 or 3 months after he broke up with me. That day, I thought he wanted us to get back together because he was talking about being together. We had sex on and off for about 8 months, and I tried to ask about getting back together, but he avoided answering. After about 8 months, I chose to stop seeing him at all.

...thus the "or have you been together" part!
The thing with an answer like "still together" all by itself is that it doesn't give anyone any kind of information about what that means: that could be for one week or ten years.
That's why we made the question were together or have been together, and then gave time periods: that way it can account for people who are still together and for those who are not, giving readers the information about how long that was/has been for. :)

It would've been longer, but he passed away. :( I waited a long time for the right person and I'm not planning on sexual activity until I find someone who's as good to me. The sex was always 110 percent. I have to heal before I have it again.

I've been with my first sexual partner for a little over six months, but I'm feeling like I should end it. I'm starting to feel trapped, but I still feel a sort of companionship connection, just not a romantic one. It seems to me that we just moved way too fast and the spark burned out much faster than it would have otherwise. :(

Still with the partner! (: Been with them for over a year. And extremely happy.
Off the record.
We we're only officially together for a year, but we've been sort of on and off for the past two... So where the heck do I put that?
